Borescope Inspection of Boiler Tubes is Revealing

Recently a customer rented a video borescope to remotely inspect the interior condition of their boiler tubes. The images they saw quickly told the story of the condition of their boiler. The video borescope inspection of the boiler tubes showed common problems such as pitting, corrosion, cracking, scale deposits and other defects.

Most refineries, power plants and chemical plants conduct remote visual inspections of the waterside of each fired boiler during the annual or bi-annual outage. The purpose of this inspection is to ensure that the corrosion and deposit control program is consistent with industry standards to preserve boiler reliability. A video borescope, videoscope or small diameter boiler tube camera is the perfect tool to visually asses the condition of a boiler. The inspector simply snakes the video borescope camera down the boiler tube from one end to the other. As the inspector pulls the camera back towards him he can view the condition and record the inspection.
